Movie Review: The Road

The Road (2009)

My first bit of advice would be, don't watch this movie

I do hope that if I'm around for the Apocalypse, I die before the cannibalism starts. That being said, this was a really well done movie, but rehashing it in my mind for the point of this post is making me nauseated.

Viggo Mortensen did an EXCELLENT job in his role, but the sadness and despair made me feel like I'd swallowed an anvil. I'm very sensitive to visual sensory input, and The Road depicted a horrific post-apocalyptic world I never want to see. There isn't much of a storyline other than watching a father and son trying to survive together, and as you can imagine, there isn't a happy ending to be sure.

The father's willpower and the love (no matter how twisted) were well-written, and it is a beautifully done piece of art, really. But honestly...I'm getting nauseated just thinking about it.

If you're interested, you can find a complete synopsis at IMDB, and thus I don't feel the need to write one here. I'm still unsure how to go about rating movies. Let's try this:

4 Stars for being really well-done and visually stimulating (ad nauseam).
-4 Stars for making me nearly lose my lunch.
4 Stars for Viggo, cuz, like, WOW. He did an amazing job.
-4 Stars for being so disturbing that I can't remember one durn thing about the soundtrack.

I think that leaves us at zero. Not recommended.
